With Montana's rich history and diverse landscape, many of it's regions have come to be known and named for their unique attributes, founders and such.
"The Swan" is so named for it's almost valley-long river, the Swan Range (mountains) on it's eastern boundary and Swan Lake. The Swan Valley is also known as the gateway to two wildernesses; the huge Bob Marshall Wilderness area to the east and the smaller but no less majestic Mission Mountain Wilderness to the west.
This beautiful Swan Valley is replete with rustic names, such as Soup Creek and road; Cilly Creek; Squeezer Creek; Fatty Creek; Goat, Lion, Dog and Cat Creeks and so on. It makes one wonder who named these and what manner of persons they were! Perhaps they were the trappers that took post at the old government pelt trappers station nearly 100 years ago, which still located on the Trapper's Place property. That's where the Trapper's Place cabin got it's name!
The Swan is also part of the Grizzly Corridor Linkage Zone, between the Mission Mountains, the Bob Marshall, the Great Bear and of course Glacier National Park.
Through a lot of concerted efforts, many folks and organizations are helping to keep the Swan as pristine as it still is! Come experience this incredible vast wilderness. Try out our beautiful log cabin rentals in the great Swan Valley of Montana!
